Bravo Greater Des Moines awarded Local Arts Program and Cultural Enrichment Grants totaling more than $3.6 million to 78 central Iowa organizations. This is the largest amount the organization has granted in a single cycle. A record number of 78 organizations are receiving funding this cycle, 21 of which are new cultural partners to Bravo. “This year’s record-breaking grants and the number of organizations than demonstrates the vibrancy of the cultural community in central Iowa,” said Bravo Executive Director Sally Dix. “As demand for programming increases, so does the need for the essential funds Bravo provides, and we are grateful for the investments from our local government partners so we can support the fantastic work being done by our grantees.” The new Local Arts Program Grant, announced in September, provides up to $10,000 of unrestricted support for community-based arts and culture programs administered by eligible organizations. In its first year of a two-year pilot, the grant program is injecting more than $96,000 of support for arts and culture into the region. Bravo’s Cultural Enrichment Grants support the operations, programs, activities and educational events of eligible organizations that are primarily arts, culture or heritage in nature. The more than $3.5 million being granted out through this program will help support the vibrant cultural community that central Iowa offers to residents and visitors. As a regional collaboration of 17 partner local governments including Altoona, Ankeny, Bondurant, Carlisle, Clive, Des Moines, Grimes, Indianola, Johnston, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill, Polk City, Polk County, Urbandale, Waukee, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights, Bravo Greater Des Moines provides sustainable funding and support to arts, culture and heritage organizations and programs. Central Iowa’s cultural organizations are a driving factor in the success of the region’s livability and economic development which supports business attraction and retention.
